The Verbier Express connects Geneva-Airport to Le Châble without changing trains, in 2 hours and 22 minutes, with two direct trains per day and per direction. It runs on Saturdays and Sundays, from 27 June to 13 September in summer and throughout the winter season. With the RailAway combined offer, the ticket is reduced by up to 70%.
This is the easiest way to get to Verbier without a car — as long as you understand one thing that brochures go by quickly: the train doesn't go up to Verbier. It stops in Le Châble, in the valley, from where the gondola takes over. Here are the schedules, the actual fares and the procedure to follow once you get off the train.
What are the Verbier Express schedules?
Two outward and two return trips per day of operation:
- Geneva-Airport 06:30 → Le Châble 08:52
- Geneva-Airport 08:30 → Le Châble 10:52
- Le Châble 3:57 p.m. → Geneva-Airport 6:30 p.m.
- Le Châble 4:57 p.m. → Geneva-Airport 7:30 p.m.
The journey takes 2 hours 22 minutes on the way there and 2 hours 33 minutes on the way back. The train serves Geneva, Coppet, Nyon, Gland and Rolle before reaching Valais, which allows you to go up from all over the Côte without going through Geneva.
When does the Verbier Express run?
The route has been in existence since 2019 and originally operated only in winter, weekends and public holidays. Two developments have changed the game:
- Summer 2026 : for the first time, the train also runs in the summer season, every Saturday and Sunday from 27 June to 13 September 2026.
- From 13 December 2026 : with the entry into force of the 2027 timetable, SBB announces a train every two hours between Geneva-Airport and Le Châble, on weekends, all year round.
In other words, the service goes from two trains a day a few months a year to a regular frequency throughout the year. For those who rent an apartment in Verbier, it changes the logistics of a stay: the car-free weekend becomes really practical.
How much does the Verbier Express cost?
The ticket follows the normal SBB fare, but the RailAway combined offer makes it much more attractive: up to 70% discount on the journey, combined with 30% on the lift pass — ski pass in winter, pedestrian day in the Verbier sector in summer — and 20% on a selection of summer activities (scooter, suspended trail, leisure park, e-bike).
The example published by the SBB for a return trip Lausanne – Le Châble in 2ndclass with a half-fare travelcard gives the measure: CHF 12 for the train instead of CHF 38.80, and CHF 64.40 for the ski pass instead of CHF 92, i.e. CHF 76.40 in total compared to CHF 130.80. A saving of 42% on the day, not including fuel and parking.
How to reach Verbier from Le Châble train station?
This is the stage that many discover on the spot. Le Châble station is located at an altitude of 820 metres, at the bottom of the Val de Bagnes; Verbier is 700 metres higher. The Le Châble – Verbier gondola departs right next to the station, making the connection immediate.
- In summer : the section is free with the VIP Pass, given to any guest staying at least one night in the Val de Bagnes. Without a VIP Pass, a single ride costs CHF 6.40 and a return CHF 12.80 — half that with a Swiss Half Fare or GA travelcard, since the gondola has been recognised as public transport since December 2021.
- In winter : the VIP Pass does not apply. You need a ski pass or a pedestrian ticket.
- Alternatively , the Val de Bagnes buses also serve the resort.
If you are staying in one of our apartments, the tourist tax is included in the price: the VIP Pass is sent to you automatically, and the ascent from the station costs you nothing in the summer season.
Train or car: what to choose to come to Verbier?
The train is essential in three scenarios: you arrive via Geneva airport, you come for a weekend without bulky equipment, or you want to avoid parking in the resort — a real issue in Verbier in high season, where spaces are scarce and there is a fee.
The car retains the advantage if you arrive outside the days when the train is running, if you are transporting bulky equipment, or if you are staying away from the centre. Let's be honest: with only two trains a day, a late arrival still imposes the road. This is precisely what the 2027 timetable must correct.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Verbier Express
Does the train go directly to Verbier?
No. The terminus is Le Châble, in the valley. The gondola next to the station then goes up to Verbier in about ten minutes.
Do I have to reserve my place?
The ticket can be purchased like any SBB ticket, online or at the station. The RailAway combined offer can be booked on the SBB website, where details of the current discounts can also be found.
Can you take your skis with you?
Yes, the train is designed for leisure guests and accommodates skis and snowboards. In summer, bicycles and e-bikes are subject to the usual SBB conditions.
Does the Verbier Express run on weekdays?
No, only on Saturdays and Sundays — as well as public holidays in the winter season. From December 2026, the two-hour frequency will also remain limited to weekends.
Is there an equivalent connection from Fribourg?
Yes, the VosAlpes Express operates the same service from Fribourg, with the same terminus in Le Châble.
