Chalet or apartment: which should you choose?
Apartments: practical and central
- Usually in the village or close to a lift.
- From a studio for two to a large family flat.
- More affordable for the same floor area.
- Easy living: no snow to clear, usually simple access.
Chalets: space and privacy
- More room, separate living areas, often a terrace or garden.
- Complete independence, no neighbours across the landing.
- Ideal for large families or groups of friends.
- Often further out: check access to the pistes and shuttle buses.
In short: a couple or small family who want to ski without a car will be happy in a well-placed apartment; a group who want to spend time together in peace will prefer a chalet.
7 things to check before you book
1. Dates and length of stay
At Christmas, New Year and in high season, our rentals are by the week, Saturday to Saturday. In mid and low season, short stays are possible. Torn between a week and the whole season? See Seasonal or weekly rental.
2. The neighbourhood
- Médran: by the main gondola, for skiing without a car.
- Place Centrale: shops, restaurants and nightlife within walking distance.
- Les Esserts: quiet, and linked to the Savoleyres sector from winter 2026/27 by the Télémixte.
- Le Châble: down in the valley near the station and gondola, often more affordable.
3. Access to the pistes
Ask for the real distance to the nearest lift, on foot and in ski boots. If the property is further out, check there is a free shuttle bus stop nearby.
4. Real capacity
A property that "sleeps 6" may include a sofa bed in the living room. Ask how many bedrooms, beds and bathrooms there are.
5. Parking
Parking is limited and often paid in the resort. Check whether a private space is included; if not, plan for a public car park or leave the car in Le Châble.
6. What the price includes
This is what makes the biggest difference to the final bill. At Freddy Michaud SA, everything is included: rent, household linen (sheets, towels, tea towels), end-of-stay cleaning, tourist tax and VAT. Elsewhere, each of these can be charged on top.
7. Booking conditions
- 50% deposit when the contract is signed, balance due 14 days before arrival.
- Cancellation up to 14 days before the stay: 50% of the rent is due; less than 14 days: 100%.
- No pets, non-smoking properties.
